Last Foray?

Our last foray into Idaho this year? Quite possibly. It didn’t start too well. I swung by Dan’s house as I was heading home. He was putting siding on his shed and I honked. He swung toward me and grazed a finger across the chip board (wafer board), thereby skewering the middle knuckle of his [...]

The “About Cutthroat Trout” page

Informational item: I have created a small page titled, “About Cutthroat Trout” that has a little bit of information on… [cue drum roll]…, yes, you guessed it, cutthroat trout. There are some pictures too. That is a page, not a post, so you can’t leave comments there. But feel free to leave comments here, if [...]

Tagged Fish – They Aren’t Playing Hide and Seek

During my fishing two weeks ago I caught a tagged fish. Out of curiosity I emailed the director of the National Aquatic Monitoring Center (he lives and works in my hometown) to see if he knew what the tag was about. He sent my email on to Gary Thiede, a fishery biologist at our local [...]

The Basin – A Picture Report

Fishing The Basin. I snapped over 150 pictures. I had my Olympus E-510 with me (first time I took it fishing). I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them (and fishing). Plenty of fish were caught. All cutts. Nothing under 8" and nothing over 13". Click below to check out [...]

The Trout Whisperers – my review at Goodreads.com

The Trout Whisperers by Peter Bodo My review rating: 4 of 5 stars Fly fisherman are sometimes thought of as snobbish sorts by other types of fishermen. Or, so the common “wisdom” is bandied about by fly fisherman. But I don’t ever think I’ve heard a non fly fisherman disparage a fly fisherman or fly [...]

“I Hope You Won’t Be Disappointed” – The Portneuf

Yeah, okay, let’s get this out of the way right here at the beginning. These were the words of “Talking Bull” (AKA Dan) to me this morning. If anyone read this post, they should know those were Talking Bull’s plans. I was okay with the plans when he first mentioned them—no complaints. Even after we [...]

Blacksmith Fork – Report

Blacksmith Fork River Fishing Report. April 12, 2008. Dan and I fished the Blacksmith Fork yesterday. The cutthroats were plentiful and most of them looked pretty healthy.

Big Wood Idaho

It’s 13 ° Fahrenheit outside this morning at 8:00 am – just a bit too cold to start on the river. It’s snowing on the three feet of snow pack already surrounding the cabin we’re in. Okay, we’re actually staying at a house (I have definite ideals about “cabins” – they’re rustic looking and loggy). We’re at the north end of Ketchum and plan on fishing the Big Wood when it warms up a bit.
