The Fishing/Science Connection

I haven’t done a fishing and science connection since the post about lying, so I thought I’d do several rolled into one.

Beer

This doesn’t apply to me, but I know it’s important to a lot of fishermen, so I thought I’d throw this in first as an attention grabber. (But I do have a second attention grabber three articles further down!)

Good news for those who like to guzzle while you cast (pay my way on your next fishing vacation, and I’ll be your designated caster—hey, that sounded funny at first, but I might just be on to something here $$$). Anyhow, good news for those of you who hate stale beer (I don’t know if root beer has a shelf life, so that might be one option). Seems researchers have found a way to make the beer stay fresh longer.

Grandparents

Having a hard time getting away because the significant other doesn’t want to be tethered to the kids again? Having a hard time getting out to the ol fishin hole? For those of you with parents nearby, here is another good excuse to dump the kids connect generations and improve their quality of life, while you fish. No parents nearby? "Rent-a-Granddad" is a great new service offered by Cutthroat Stalker (along with his new "Designated Caster" service). I know what you’re thinking, but are you kidding, I don’t do the grandparenting! Have you noticed there have been fewer panhandlers on the streets lately? (Other than BG, I hear he’s always on the lookout for any means necessary to support that enviable lifestyle of his.) That’s right, I think of my new service as a win-win-win situation for all. I hire the bum, collect your kid, connect the bum and the kid (through and online survey that finds the right kid and bum combination for the best experience), you get to fish and so do I.

Okay, so you think beer and grandparents don’t mix? How about:

Celebrities

That’s right, celebrities and beer mix much better. But that’s not the topic. New research shows that the more you admire your favorite celeb, the better you feel about yourself! Great, another reason for thousands of teens to admire Brittney Spears. Let’s get some new role models, like, say, Nick Lyons or John Gierach. Now those are some parasocial relationships I would like to set up.

Fossilized Sex

Yeah, okay, I thought that would wake you up. A " new discovery points to internal fertilization and viviparity in vertebrates as originating earliest within placoderms." That’s right folks, a fish is the earliest known example of having sex and live birth. Pretty exciting stuff.

And yes, I did position "Celebrities" and "Fossilized Sex" in close proximity on purpose.

Robofish

Yep, that’s right. Can’t wait to tie on a lithium fly and catch me one of these babies! Actually, the article is pretty interesting.

There you go—you are now up-to-date with all the latest science news that is important to the well-informed fisherman. You’re welcome!
