Too Cold to Fish – Sepia Vignettes

A couple of days ago it was a little too cold to fish (3° F), so I decided to take a few snapshots instead.

As I was preparing them for the web, I got a wild hair and decided to make them all (almost) sepia tone vignettes.

I hope you enjoy them.

  2. Sad you didn’t wet the line, but at least the photos came out great, eh?  Not that I’m capable of copying the method (everyone knows I can’t take a pic to save my life), but curious as to what tool you used to enhance the photos.

    • Hi Michael. Photoshop CS2. One of the things I really like about it is the ability to create “actions,” basically just a macro. So any repetitive tasks can be saved. The first thing I do is crop to the size I want. Then a one button macro to convert it to a black and white (at the end of the conversion I can tweak a couple of settings to get just the look I want). One button macro to get the vignetting I want (again, at the end I can tweak it if I want). Then one button to convert to a sepia tone. If I didn’t want to tweak between each step, I could easily combine them all into a one-button-does-all macro.

  3. Love the pics.  I imagine you take a lot of pictures. I would love to see more if you have them.

  4. Too cold to fish? No such thing. We went out last Saturday on the coldest day yet this year and still caught fish. The reels would freeze solid in seconds and don’t even get me started about the line guides.

I really like the shot of the rail fence!

    • Hi Kevin! Well, I’m just a wuss – I’ll leave the “reel real man” fishing to you. With waders booties like mine…brrrrrrr! I like taking pictures. I usually like fishing more. But on a day like that day, I’d rather be dry!

I liked that fence one too. I wish I could have eliminated the deer tracks entirely, or that they would have been a little fresher so they would have shown up clearly as deer tracks.
