Not Fly Fishing

New Look…

…same old crappy fishy content.

I needed a change.

Other guys have real mid-life crisis and get a new Harley or take a fishing trip to Patagonia. I get a blog makeover. Yippee!

  1. Looks fantastic – much improved over the previous black-backgrounded theme.

    • Thanks MG! I love black backgrounds, but always find them a little tougher to read. Actually, what I like about the black is how they set off the pictures. What I need is to find some coding to make my NexGen Gallery produce thumbnails and the inline pictures with a wide black border. Or not. I don’t know why I worry sometimes.

      • I’m actually using NexGen Gallery for a real estate pitch site I did for a client – good stuff. Maybe you can mess with the style sheet to get a shaded background on the pics?

My own pics usually blow, so I went the easy route with lightboxes. You might also want to try that – the JQuery Ballupton plugin is easy as pie (even with my garbled code theme).

PS: like the threaded comments too – something else I have to hack :-(

  2. First one was way cool…but now that you have so much info, links, posts and what not on the blog…this one is definitely more sane.

  3. The new look rocks, Scott.

  4. It’s a good look, though I do like to see “Recent Posts” at a glance.

Salmonflies are on the Big Hole, though, so I’ve gotta quit readin’…

    • Enjoy those salmonflies ER, but be careful you don’t get stuck in the mud or tip the rig over or some other untoward event as you are chasing those elusive little bugs.

Since I don’t make a major post often (about one a week), I figure most people who visit my site have probably already seen the old posts. The “Featured Post” will be for the big “weekly” post. The “Info & News” section is for little things I want to do on a closer to daily basis. I’ll see if I can get some short snippets for each “Recent Post” (if my coding skills are up to snuff–I’ve been hacking away at an existing theme to get the look I want and I’m not sure I’ve got the php chops to make it happen).

  5. Scott,

Nice new look! Brighter and easier to read. Hell-the fishy content is why we follow your site anyway so don’t go getting all upscale on us. Keep it real!

    • Thanks for stopping by Harry!

Don’t worry about the content. I only plan on adding a little more in the way of news items. I always wanted more newsy stuff, but when I posted that kind of stuff it pushed my “real content” (the stories, musings, BS, etc.) down. I was afraid people might not want to take the time to scroll and find the “real content.” This way, stuff I think of as some of my story-like writings will always appear at the top in the “Featured Post.” Other “real content” items (fishing trips and reports, etc.) will appear in the “Latest Post” at the top. The other five most recent posts will be available in the “Recent Posts” section. And now I have a spot to add “News and Info” items that I always wanted to share anyway.

Not trying to be upscale, just concerned that I provide my faithful readers (all three of them) with the best experience possible. Because I care.

OK, I’ll cut the bull–I don’t give a crap about the three of you. What I’m actually doing is ramping up for my major site overhaul in which the reader will be inundated with the flashy/blinky/slidey/rotating glitz of major fly fishing companies and their advertisements. I’m going bigtime baby!

OK, OK, that’s a load of crap too. I just needed a change. Sorry about the upscaliness of it all. Let me know what is/isn’t working for you. I’m still tweaking, so as you come back over the next several days there might be subtle changes (or I’ll scrap the whole thing and it will look entirely different).

  6. Back in the day, I dated a girl who was flashy/blinky/slidey/rotating.

Seriously, Scott, it looks good and works well. Make all the design and function changes you want. We’re not going away!
